Firm tackles Legionella

17 November 2008

Getting a check-up: Parkstone HouseChristchurch based AquaCare Water Hygiene Services has won a contract to provide legionella risk assessments for Western Challenge Housing Association, which has a number of properties in the county.

The arrangement means that Aquacare, a subsidiary of Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water will cover the entire property portfolio for the organisation which has houses in Bournemouth, Christchurch and East Dorset as well as the rest of the south of England.

Western Challenge, a subsidiary of Spectrum Housing Group, which has offices at Christchurch and Blandford, is an independent landlord providing over 7,500 homes for rent and shared ownership.

Over 1,400 of these are for residents who need care or support to live independently and many of the properties have shared water supplies.

Trained AquaCare consultants are undertaking a full site inspection to identify all water systems covered by the Health & Safety Commissions Approved Code of Practice and Guidance (ACoP L8) requirements.

Legionella is the bacteria responsible for legionnaires disease, a form of bacterial pneumonia spread chiefly in water droplets.
