Father of two Martin Coombes is hoping to swell the coffers of Dorset's only children's hospice when he takes part in this year's London Marathon.
The 31-year-old Water Hygiene Technician has set his sights on raising at least £500 for Julia's House.
Martin, who works for Christchurch-based AquaCare, is running in his first London Marathon and aims to complete the 26-mile course in less than four hours.
"I have competed in quite a few shorter events but this is my first stab at a full marathon," he said.
Martin, who lives with partner Sara and daughters Daisy, two, and Leah, seven, at Parkstone, Poole, said he would 'bust a gut' to achieve the fastest possible time.
He added: "Julia's House is such a great local charity and the money will go to really good use for this amazing cause."
Julia's House is Dorset's only hospice dedicated to children with life-limiting conditions and offers care both at home and in the hospice.
AquaCare, which is owned by Bournemouth & West Hampshire Water, has adopted Julia's House as its charity for 2009. It is also providing free emergency plumbing, heating and drains support to the Corfe Mullen hospice.
